President's Update to CUPE Local 38 Members - April 6, 2020

April 6, 2020

To All Our Members,

We wanted to give you an update as we are sure many of you are wondering what will happen over the next few weeks. We are having ongoing conversations with the City of Calgary, ENMAX and the Parking Authority and will continue to update you as things evolve. As many of you may have seen in recent media reports, some of our colleagues in Recreation have received temporary lay-off notices. For the most part, these colleagues worked as Instructors in the various Recreation programs. At this time, the City has not communicated any plans for further layoffs. Both ENMAX and the Calgary Parking Authority have given no indication of lay-offs, and we encourage you to continue with your work while respecting the social distancing and social isolation recommendations as necessary. It is essential that we have current contact information for all of our members during this time and we would appreciate it if you could send us your personal email address and phone number so we can update our lists and ensure we have a direct method of communicating with you. And, if you know of other members who are not receiving updates please remind them to send us their contact details as well. We are available and here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. The Local 38 office remains open, and we continue to respond to your inquires as normal. You can reach us by at or by telephone at 403-233-2700. Following the strong recommendations from all government bodies to continue social isolation we are cancelling the CUPE General Membership meeting scheduled for April 28, 2020. That being said we are moving to increase our communications on all non face-to-face channels so that we can provide updates to you in a timely fashion. With everything going on we know what a stressful time this is for you and your families and we want to reinforce we are here to support you in any way we can with our first priority being your safety and well being. We could not be more proud of the work our members do - especially our front line workers who continue to provide city services through this challenging time. Sincerely, D’Arcy Lanovaz President CUPE Local 38
